Summer in Vermont can be hot and sunny one day, humid and cloudy one day, rainy one minute, and the next its not. Whatever type of day we are having, it is nice to be able to get out and enjoy the nice cool Missisquoi River and its many streams and brooks.

Missisquoi River Basin Association's partner organization, Upper Missisquoi and Trout Rivers Wild and Scenic Committee (UMATR) is heavily focused on river access and getting people on the water.
One way UMATR does this is by having established river access points where people can easily enter and exit the water with canoes and kayaks. N0 boat? No problem, these sites make for nice swimming entrances as well.
There are several UMATR river access points located across the Missisquoi Watershed, making it nice and simple to utilize the river from many different places.
Most of the river access points have permanent stone steps that get shoveled off as sediment collects on them. A few of the river access points contain removable wooden steps that get put in and taken out by UMATR staff and the start and end of each season. Weed whacking is done as needed to keep the access paths clear and visible for use.

Pearl likes to tag along during access point maintance and step put in / take out to serve as quality control as she jumps in the river, swims around, gets out, and repeats. She is a true water loving dog.
Each summer, UMATR works with the Northern Forest Canoe Trail to add a new access point to the river. Keep an eye out for a new one coming very soon in East Berkshire.

If you get lucky, you may even see Pearl swimming around, enjoying the day.
